What's happening

On 28 and 29 June, the Grand Chamber of the CJEU is to hear 6 cases concerning the Rule of Law in Poland. All hearing will be live-streamed via the CJEU website. 28 June: Case C-204/21 - Commission v Poland (the Muzzle Law), Cases C-615/20 - YP and Others, and C-671/20 - M. M. (suspension of judge Igor Tuleya by the sham Disciplinary Chamber). 29 June: Cases C-181/21 - G, and C-269/21 - BC and DC.

MEP Sophie in ‘t Veld, member of the Renew Europe group, affirms rule of law in not up for negotiation and the EU Treaties need to be defended. Hungary and Poland have to comply with EU law.

Declaration of state of emergency in Hungary allows Viktor Orbán to rule by decree. This was made possibile due to another change in Hungarian constitution: ‘state of danger’ includes now also ‘wars and conflicts in nearby countries’. Read Jakub Jaraczewski thread
